Rose M. Nickel
Rose M. Nickel, 90, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully on
August 29, 2014, at Woodlands Senior Park, with Family by her side. She was
born August 6, 1924 to Valentine J. and Magdalena R. (Schumacher) Gau in Fond
du Lac.
Rose was united in marriage to Gordon A. Nickel on August 29,
1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Rose worked at Fox Valley Savings and Loan as an assistant
secretary until she retired. She
volunteered for many years with the St. Agnes Hospice Hope Program. Rose was a member of St. John the Baptist
Parish in Woodhull and a former parish trustee.
She was also a member of BPOE #57 Ladies Elks and Soroptimist
International. Rose was actively
involved in the Senior Center Wood Carving Club, golfing and quilting.
Survivors include her husband Gordon, a resident at Grancare
Nursing Home in Fond du Lac; one daughter Joan (Garry) Curless of Stevens
Point; one son Gary (Deborah Padgett) of Plymouth; two grandchildren, Dr. Erin
(Ryan Helminen) Curless of Appleton and Stephen (Shauna) Nickel of Anchorage,
AK; three great grandchildren: Adri, Aliisa and Finn; three brothers: Fr. David
Gau S.J. of Milwaukee, Paul (Charlene) Gau of Fond du Lac and James (Maxine) Gau
of Corvallis, OR; two sisters-in-law Therese Wood of Fond du Lac and Lorraine
Waldschmidt of Fond du Lac; many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Delores Weber and Martina Winckler; three
brothers-in-law: George Winckler, Henry Wood and Andrew Weber.
Visitation and Mass will be held in mid-October with date, time
and location announced at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at Woodlands Senior
Park and Agnesian Hospice Hope for their compassionate care given to mom.
