Alcohol believed to be a factor in fatal Fond du Lac County crash

On Monday, January 5, 2026, at approximately 6:50 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Communication Center received a call of a one vehicle rollover crash on County Highway M near Amity Rd about five miles north of Waupun.

Responding deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and located a male occupant inside of the vehicle that was over turned in the east ditch of Highway M.

Because of the extent of damage to the vehicle, the Brandon/Fairwater Fire Department used the Jaws of life to extricate the male operator from the vehicle and began administering medical aid.

Investigation into the crash shows the man was traveling north on M. Just north of Amity Road, the vehicle went off the roadway into the east ditch where it struck an embankment and overturned, coming to rest in the east ditch of Highway M.

The driver, and lone operator of the vehicle, a 61-year-old man from Oshkosh, was transported by Life Star Ambulance with serious injuries to SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Due to injuries sustained in the crash the man was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The sheriff’s office is suspecting alcohol to be a factor in the crash.

County Highway M was closed between Amity Road and County Highway TC for one hour while crews worked the scene.
