ATV driver killed in Fond du Lac County crash

A 70-year-old Fond du Lac County resident is dead following an ATV crash Wednesday evening in the Township of Forest.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says the crash was reported just before 6 p.m. on Walnut Road near Century Lane. A passing motorist called 9-1-1 after finding an ATV overturned near the shoulder, with the driver lying nearby and unresponsive.

First responders attempted lifesaving measures, and a ThedaStar medical helicopter was called to the scene, however the man died at the scene.

Investigators say the ATV was traveling westbound on Walnut Road while pulling a brush mower when the driver lost control, causing the machine to overturn in the roadway.

Walnut Road between County Highway W and Seven Hills Road was closed for about two hours while crews worked the scene.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating the crash.
