Conditions remain dry – fire hazard remains high

Conditions remain dry and the Wisconsin DNR is warning of any outdoor burning as any fire could quickly get out of control.
The DNR reported nine wildfires in Wisconsin Monday, October 21, 2024, including one in southern Winnebago County that called for a response from several Fond du Lac County departments. strong winds eventually rekindled that fire later in the day requiring the fire departments to respond again. Another fire occurred on Washington Island, which is the very tip of Door County. While Washington Island has their own fire Department, mutual aid needed to take a ferry across the water separating the island from the main land.
According to the DNR’s website, all but 6 counties in Wisconsin are listed as a high or very high risk for wildfires. Some brief relief to the dry conditions show up Thursday night as rain is forecasted, but dry weather sets in again soon after.
