DATCP’s Financial Literacy Challenge
April is National Financial Literacy Month! “Financial literacy” is a person’s ability to understand and manage money. It’s not about mastering investments or stock markets; it’s about making informed, everyday decisions to save money and avoid unnecessary costs. DATCP challenges Wisconsin consumers to boost their financial literacy by taking advantage of these consumer protection resources:
· Read DATCP’s Consumer Guide. This 40+ page booklet is a trusted source of information on common consumer issues and scams. It can be downloaded from ConsumerGuide.wi.gov or ordered from DATCP’s Consumer Protection Hotline.
· Attend a consumer protection presentation. DATCP delivers hundreds of educational presentations to Wisconsin communities and organizations every year! Visit DATCP’s website to see if there are upcoming presentations in your area.
· Check out online consumer tips and information. Consumers can access and download more than 100 consumer protection topics online. This is a great resource if consumers have a specific consumer right, issue, or question they want to learn more about.
· Watch DATCP’s Consumer Protection 101 series and Consumer Protection PSAs on YouTube. DATCP’s YouTube channel features a playlist called Consumer Protection 101 featuring short, educational videos about data privacy, online security, rental agreements and contracts, scams and fraud, and more, as well as 12 30-second PSAs on a variety of consumer protection topics.
Consumers can also help promote National Financial Literacy Month by sharing these resources with their friends, family, and community members.
