Deer numbers up ahead of gun deer hunt season
A week before the Wisconsin gun deer hunting season starts, it appears your odds of seeing a deer are higher than normal, as the DNR says there are more than 2 million deer across the state, which is similar to last year’s pre hunt numbers.
The Wisconsin DNR says the deer population is at least as high as last year and likely higher in many areas. A big reason they say is due to the mild winters we’ve had in the last couple years.
According to the DNR, the average number of deer usually in the state at the start of the gun season is 1.8 million.
Wisconsin’s gun deer hunting season runs Saturday, November 22, through Sunday, November 30.
