DNR says get shanties off Winnebago system lakes by end of day Sunday

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued deadlines for the removal of ice shanties on area lakes.

Shanties on any inland waters south of Highway 64 are to be removed no later than Sunday, March 2, 2025. This includes Lake Winnebago, and the Upriver Lakes of Poygan, Butte des Morts and Winneconne, and all other lakes in our area.

Shanties on Lake Michigan, Green Bay, Lake Superior, and inland waters north of Highway 64 must be removed by March 16th.

The department says ice fishermen using portable ice shanties that are removed at the end of each day can still be used past these dates, however anglers are strongly urged to check ice conditions before venturing out as warm weather sets in.
