Domestic incident leads officers to illicit drug lab

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, at approximately 4:34 p.m., deputies with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office were called to an address in the town of Portland for a possible domestic disturbance.

While investigating this matter, deputies learned of a suspected clandestine laboratory used for manufacturing illicit drugs located in the basement of the residence. As such, investigators with the Dodge County Drug Task Force were called to the scene and began to further identify the chemicals, equipment, and evidence associated with the clandestine laboratory.

Investigators with the Dodge County Drug Task Force determined that this clandestine laboratory was utilized in manufacturing ecstasy, and a search warrant for the premises was obtained. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office requested further assistance from the Clandestine Laboratory Response Team, which is operated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

On Monday, April 14, 2025, the search warrant for the premises was executed by investigators with the Dodge County Drug Task Force and members of the Clandestine Laboratory Response Team. Investigators recovered suspected illicit controlled substances, suspected drug paraphernalia, laboratory equipment, and hazardous materials from the residence. Later on this date, deputies made contact with the suspect – Daniel G. Buretta (a 40-year-old male from the town of Portland). Mr. Buretta was taken into custody for the following criminal charges:

– Domestic Battery

– Domestic Disorderly Conduct

– Maintain a Drug Trafficking Place

– Possession with Intent to Manufacture Certain other Schedule I Controlled Substances and Ketamine

– Possession with Intent to Manufacture Psilocybin

– Possession of a Schedule I/II Narcotic Drug

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by Waterloo Emergency Medical Services, Waterloo Fire Department, Dodge County HAZMAT, Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigations, and Dodge County Emergency Management.

While there was a large response to this, it was done so out of an abundance of caution due to the chemicals used in the creation of this clandestine laboratory. The residence has been made safe by the Clandestine Laboratory Response Team, and the community should have no concerns for their safety regarding this incident.
