Dozens injured in Green Bay charter bus crash

A charter bus carrying 54 people crashed off I-43 Sunday, March 22, 2026, in Green Bay.

The bus was en route from Chicago to a casino in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Authorities say the bus exited northbound I-43 and failed to stop at the bottom of the offramp, continuing over an embankment at high speed crossing east Shore Drive and coming to rest in-between two warehouses near Bay Beach recreational area.

In total, 33 of the 54 mostly elderly passengers were transported to area hospitals with varying degrees of injury, with two being considered critical.

Due to the amount of patients needing care, all available City of Green Bay ambulance rigs were called as well as several from surrounding communities.

Passengers that were uninjured were brought to a local Salvation Army facility to wait for a new bus that was coming up from Chicago to take them back.

Wisconsin State Patrol troopers are investigating the incident by reviewing dash camera footage that was captured by a vehicle following the bus, and by inspecting any potential mechanical failures the bus may have experienced.
