Dozens of calves perish in Sheboygan County barn fire

Sheboygan County authorities are looking into what caused a barn to catch fire near Plymouth Sunday night, January 19, 2025.

At about 11:55 PM, the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a neighbor of the property with the barn, reporting the fire at the address of W4357 Sumac Road in the Town of Lima.

Upon arrival, Deputies and fire fighters found the barn was fully engulfed and a MABAS call was put out, bringing in mutual aid from 12 other fire departments besides Waldo, which was the initial department called.

While on scene, it was learned that between 35-40 calves were housed in the barn, none of which were able to make it out and died in the blaze.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and remains under investigation.
