Driver gets away after 34-mile-long pursuit

A wrong-way driver led law enforcement on a pursuit spanning about 34 miles through three counties Thursday night, October 29, 2026.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says the incident began around 10:25 Thursday night, when dispatchers received calls about a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of highway 151 near County Highway TC in the Town of Lamartine.

A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper located the vehicle near I-41, but the driver refused to stop and fled southbound on the interstate, reaching speeds of 110 miles per hour.

The pursuit continued onto several state and county highways, cutting through the village of Lomira in Dodge County, and reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour on Mohawk Road in Washington County.

While State Troopers terminated the chase as the driver approached the village of Kewaskum in a reckless manner, a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s sergeant later located the vehicle south of Kewaskum, where the driver continued fleeing with the vehicle’s lights turned off.

The vehicle eventually lost control on Woodford Drive on the north side of the City of West Band and ended up in a ditch.

The driver ran away on foot, leaving three passengers behind. A search involving a K-9 unit, a drone and assisting law enforcement agencies from Washington County and Wisconsin State Patrol was unsuccessful.

Investigators identified the driver as a 38-year-old Milwaukee man with numerous felony warrants.

No deputies were injured, and no property damage was reported. The three passengers were questioned and released.
