Driver turned in after crashing into Fond du Lac County home

A driver who allegedly crashed into a home in the Town of Auburn Saturday night was turned in to authorities the following morning thanks to a relative of the driver.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at approximately 8:44 p.m. September 5, 2026, near the intersection of Highway 45 and Highway 67.

The Fond du Lac County Communication Center received a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a residence. The caller told dispatchers they had not witnessed the crash, but had heard it.

When a sheriff’s deputy arrived, the vehicle and residence were both unoccupied. Deputies attempted to locate the driver using a K9 and drone, but those efforts were unsuccessful.

According to the preliminary investigation, the vehicle was traveling northbound on Highway 67 when it failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went left of center and then failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 45.

The vehicle crossed Highway 45 and struck a residence located adjacent to the highway.

Investigators believe speed and inattentive driving may have contributed to the crash.

Deputies also contacted relatives of the presumed driver in an effort to locate them. A relative ultimately turned the driver in to authorities the following morning.

The homeowners arrived during the investigation and confirmed no one was inside the home when it was struck. They estimate the damage to the residence at approximately $15,000.

A family pet was inside the home at the time of the crash and suffered minor injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active and additional follow-up will be conducted.
