Early morning fire destroys Fond du Lac County barn
Several fire departments were on scene of a reported shed fire on Towne Road in the southwest part of Fond du Lac County early Tuesday morning, March 17, 2026.
Shortly before 4:30 a.m. a neighbor called in the fire with the home owner where the barn was located calling in shortly after.
Responding units said they were faced with roads that were iced over and a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy said Towne road was down to one lane in parts due to drifting snow.
Units first on scene reported the structure was fully engulfed, with a nearby shed also being threatened by the flames.
It was reported no animals or people were in the structure at the time of the fire.
The owner advised that the burning structure was a shed used as a workshop and did not contain any items of significant value.
The structure was described as a 20-foot by 30-foot metal shed with an estimated value of $23,000.
The building is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire department personnel remained on scene for approximately two hours conducting fire suppression and overhaul operations.
The following fire departments responded to the incident: Waupun, Oakfield, Lamartine, Alto, Brandon-Fairwater, Rosendale, Brownsville, Burnett, Kekoskee, and RIT Team 4. Lifestar Ambulance Service also responded to the scene. The Fond du Lac County Highway Department and the Waupun Township assisted with the incident.
