Eight people rescued from sinking boat on Lake Winnebago over weekend

Eight boaters needed to be rescued off of Lake Winnebago Saturday, June 15, 2024, after the boat they were on started taking on water.

At about 4 PM, sheriff’s office dive teams from Winnebago and Calumet Counties converged on the lake after reports of the sinking boat came in. Other boaters in the area were also on scene to help get the 6 adults and 2 children to safety.

It was reported that all 8 passengers had flotation devices on at the time of the rescue which Calumet Fire Chief Brian Schussman says helped keep the situation from being worse than it could have been.

None of the 8 passengers were injured in the incident.
