Fire danger high today… Roller coaster ride of rain and sun this week
We had a pleasant weekend thanks to a high pressure system that was set up over the central portion of the country. Saturday was cool with a high of 44, but Sunday saw mostly sunny skies with temperatures warming up to 60. That high pressure has drifted south but is still strong enough to influence our weather today, Monday, April 22, 2024, with sun early before clouds increase in the afternoon with the approach of a weak cold front and subsequent rainfall associated with a low pressure system moving west to east in south central Canada today.
Winds will increase as the front passes to 15 to 20 mph and an area of light rain will pass over later this evening. The rain will be light with less than 1/10th of an inch expected.
Before the rain gets here, and while the winds are blowing, the National Weather Service says outdoor fire danger will be elevated, so be aware if you are doing any controlled burning today, as winds will pick up around noon.
While it technically is a cold front moving through, temperatures won’t drop much after we see a high in the mid 60s today.
Dry air then cuts into the system Tuesday giving us a few hours of sunshine before wrap around precipitation on the back side of the low moves in Tuesday afternoon giving us a chance of scattered showers and maybe even a rumble of thunder, but again, rainfall totals will be on the lighter side.
Then another area of high pressure moves in Wednesday and Thursday giving us plenty of sunshine, with highs around 50 Wednesday and 60 on Thursday.
