Fond du Lac County 4-H Cloverbuds Discover Their Inner Heroes at Superheroes in the Community Day Camp

Twenty-one young participants learned that heroes aren’t just found in comic books at the 2026 Fond du Lac County 4-H Cloverbud Day Camp, Superheroes in the Community.

Throughout the day, Cloverbud campers (members in Kindergarten through 2nd grade) explored the many ways people serve their communities while participating in hands-on activities, creative projects, games, and special presentations from local heroes.

The day began with icebreaker activities where campers shared their favorite superheroes and discussed careers they might pursue someday. Participants then created their own superhero capes and masks, designing unique identities that reflected the qualities they admire in heroes.

Campers also enjoyed superhero-themed games that introduced them to real-life community helpers, including firefighters, emergency medical personnel, veterinarians, farmers, bus drivers, park rangers, and more. A special visit from an Eldorado firefighter, Jerry, allowed youth to learn firsthand about the responsibilities and rewards of serving others through emergency response and community service. Jerry also taught campers about the importance of fire safety, teaching ways to stay safe and what to do in the event of a fire.

After lunch, campers continued their superhero adventure with outdoor games, shield decorating, and an interactive superhero training course. Youth rotated through a series of stations designed to test and train the skills for everyday superheroes. Each station challenged youth to use their speed, strength, teamwork, problem-solving, and rescue skills, while working together to overcome challenges and discover what it takes to be a hero. 

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a presentation from Fond du Lac Police Officer Burr and K-9 Gambo. Campers learned about the important role K-9 teams play in keeping communities safe. Officer Burr demonstrated how Gambo uses his sense of smell to search for specific items. He also showed how Gambo alerts him when he successfully finds what he is looking for. The youth had many questions for Officer Burr about Gambo’s training and daily work as a police K-9.  

The day concluded with campers creating their own superhero profiles and reflecting on the character traits that make a true hero. Through the camp experience, youth learned that heroes come in many forms and that qualities such as kindness, courage, responsibility, and helping others can make anyone a community superhero.

The Superheroes in the Community Day Camp provided Cloverbuds with a fun, engaging opportunity to learn about community service, build friendships, develop confidence, and recognize the important contributions made by local heroes every day.
