Fond du Lac County Man convicted of voter fraud gets 30 day jail sentence

A Fond du Lac County man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for illegally voting in the 2020 election

45-year-old Anthony Van Egtern pleaded no contest to election fraud and was found guilty Thursday, September 24, 2026, by Fond du Lac County Judge Laura Lavey.

The case stems from the November 3, 2020 election. Prosecutors say Van Egtern was serving a felony sentence at the time and therefore was not eligible to vote.

The criminal complaint says Van Egtern initially denied voting when questioned by a sheriff’s detective in 2021. After being shown his voter registration and the poll book from the Taycheedah Town Hall, he admitted he had voted.

The complaint says he told investigators he voted because he thought it was important to vote and that he believed the country was “going to hell.”

Van Egtern’s probation ended in December of 2020, about a month after the election.

District Attorney Eric Toney says the conviction demonstrates the process for identifying and prosecuting illegal voting, while noting the case does not represent a stolen election.
