Fond du Lac County man who had human remains found in his home now in custody in Fond du Lac County

The man who is at the center of two seperate investigations has now been taken into custody in Fond du Lac County after being released on bond from Dane County in a stalking case there.

According to Fond du Lac County jail records, Benjamin Carl Larson was admitted into the Fond du Lac County Jail Monday, August 31, 2026, on three counts of receiving stolen property and one count of felony bail jumping.

Larson, who has an address on County Highway Q in Fond du Lac County, had been charged in Dane County with one count of felony stalking, a Class I felony. The criminal complaint was filed August 18, 2026, and alleges that he stalked a Madison-area woman from June 2013 through July 2026.

The woman had briefly dated Larson in 2013. According to the complaint, after she ended the relationship and eventually moved to Canada, Larson allegedly continued contacting her through letters, emails, gifts and other communications. Investigators say the behavior continued for years and intensified again in 2025.

On August 14, Madison Police investigators, assisted by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, searched Larson’s rural Fond du Lac County home as part of the Dane County stalking investigation. During that search, investigators discovered numerous items related to serial killers as well as what appeared to be human skulls and a mummified body. Because this was not part of the Madison case, Fond du Lac authorities requested their own search warrant to be able to take the items into custody and send them off to be examined.

A forensic anthropologist’s preliminary examination indicated that many of the remains may actually be ancient Native American remains, rather than modern human remains. More specialized testing is being conducted to determine exactly what the remains are, how old they are and whether they were illegally obtained.

Until August 31, Larson remained free on bond from the Madison stalking case, and was not charged for the human remains found in his residence.

Earlier Monday the 31st, Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney issued a statement about the low cash bail ordered by the Dane County Judge. In the statement Toney wrote,

The allegations in the Dane County criminal complaint against Benjamin Larson are beyond disturbing. The shockingly low cash bail ordered by the Dane County Judge is disturbing based on the allegations, which no woman should ever have to experience. I have been working with investigators since the early stages of this investigation in Fond du Lac County. It remains an active investigation and no charges have been referred to the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office.
