Fond du Lac County weather cold but quiet for first time in a week
For the first time in almost a week, the area has no weather advisories, watches or warnings as the second of two major winter storms has finally passed.
While the first storm wasn’t much for precipitation, it packed a punch with a wind advisory on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, which was upgraded to a high wind warning Wednesday. As that system moved on, the second moved in with a winter weather advisory issued, which was updated to a winter storm watch, then to a winter storm warning and then to a blizzard warning.
When it was all said and done, the Fond du Lac area received about nine inches of snow with considerable blowing and drifting of snow.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office responded to dozens of calls of vehicles in the ditch, crashes and runoffs, and even some vehicles that got stuck right in the lanes of traffic due to drifting.
During their responses to calls of drivers stranded, three of the departments squad cars were struck at separate incidents by other passing motorists.
The most impactful incident was yesterday when several semis either jackknifed or went into the ditch on the northbound side of I-41 between the North Fond du Lac exit and the north county line, shutting the highway down for several hours while they were removed.
