Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue Responds To House Fire

A basement fire in a house kept Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue busy for several hours last night.

Around 9 PM the home owner reported seeing and smelling smoke on the first floor and in the basement of the residence at 605 County Road K in the City of Fond du Lac.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke conditions showing from the basement of the single-family house with light to moderate smoke on the first and second floor as well. The fire was quickly extinguished but not before it caused extensive damage to the basement of the home.  

The home was occupied by a family of 6 that was alerted to the fire by the smell of smoke and the sounding of smoke detectors in their basement.

Numerous cats were found and removed from the residence as well.

The Red Cross was called to the scene and will be assisting the family that was displaced due to smoke, water and fire damage.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
