Fond du Lac man in custody after firing gun and making threats to law enforcement

A 43-year-old Fond du Lac man is in police custody after suffering a mental health incident in which he fired several rounds inside an apartment building Friday night, April 11, 2025.
Just before 8 p.m., Fond du Lac Police received a 9-1-1 call from the man’s mother who was with the man inside a south National Avenue apartment. She advised her son was making suicidal threats and had fired multiple rounds from a handgun inside the apartment which shattered a bedroom window.
It was learned that earlier in the day, the man had made comments about harming law enforcement, so a heavy police response was initiated, which included both City of Fond du Lac and County Sheriff SWAT teams.
Police issued a shelter in place for residents in the 100 block of south National Avenue while evacuating residents of the apartment complex.
Crisis Negotiation teams attempted contact with the man but he refused to communicate with them.
At about 10:15 p.m. an explosive breach device was used to enter the apartment and the man was taken into custody.
A portion of National Avenue was closed to traffic during the incident while police were on scene.
