Fond du Lac Police and Fire inform and warn of illegal fireworks ahead of 4th of July holiday

In Wisconsin, an average of 19,500 fires are started by fireworks annually. This includes 1,300 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, and nearly 17,000 other fires. Last year, about 9,700 emergency room visits were due to injuries caused by fireworks. This year Fond du Lac Fire Rescue and Fond du Lac Police Department are teaming up to help keep residents safe. Know the facts before you purchase fireworks. The city of Fond du Lac has an ordinance on the sale and use of fireworks. The general rule is if it leaves the ground, or explodes, it’s illegal to shoot off. The permits you receive from vendors are not valid for the use of illegal fireworks. Fire and Police officials will be out enforcing the ordinance.

There will be multiple fireworks displays throughout the city again this year. This includes the 4th of July display at Lakeside Park and Friday night Dock Spiders games. Information about the ordinance can be found on the city’s website or by contacting Fond du Lac Fire Rescue. We hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday!
