Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents of a phone scam currently making the rounds.

According to the department, over the last several days, a number of citizens have reported a caller is identifying themselves as a “Perry Jones or Perry Smet” of either the Fond du Lac Police Department or the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office. The caller is indicating that the person answering failed to report for jury duty and will be held in contempt of court or that there is a warrant out for them.

The caller attempts to rectify the contempt of court or warrant by obtaining payment through various methods.

The sheriff’s office is stressing this is a scam, and that you shouldn’t provide these callers any personal identifying information or payment.

The sheriff’s office is asking that residents pass this information on to friends and family members so that others do not fall victim to this scam.
