Four more tornadoes in Wisconsin Wednesday brings state total up to 35 for the year

The National Weather Service says four tornadoes touched down in Wisconsin during a round of severe storms that moved through southern Wisconsin Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The storms were part of a larger system that brought widespread severe weather to a portion of Iowa, Illinois and Indiana.

The first of the tornadoes touched down at 4:53 p.m. in northeast Iowa and traveled across the Mississippi River into Crawford County. This tornado had a path of just under 33 miles and produced EF2 damage with estimated windspeeds of 115 mph. Damage included destruction of some farm outbuildings and minor damage to a few houses.

The second tornado touched down at 5:45 p.m. just southeast of the City of Boscobel in Grant County. This EF1 tornado traveled 21 miles with estimated wind speeds of 105 mph. The tornado heavily damaged farm outbuildings along it’s path, ending just east of the Village of Highland in Iowa County.

A third tornado formed in Iowa County southwest of Ridgeway producing EF1 damage , hitting the Town of Ridgeway salt shed near Highway 18/151. It then tracked six miles to the southeast and destroyed a metal shed along County Road H. Sporadic tree damage was also noted along the path.

The last tornado touched down just north of Belleville in Dane County at 7:10 p.m., traveling just under three miles. EF1 damage was produced along it’s path with numerous trees snapped, two garages destroyed and some minor damage to a couple houses.

This latest round of tornadoes brings the states total in 2026 up to 35 confirmed touchdowns. Just under last years total of 39. The state average is 23 tornadoes per year.
