General Election Tuesday in Wisconsin
Voters across Fond du Lac County and the state of Wisconsin head to the polls tomorrow for the November general election.
Locally, there are two countywide offices on the ballot. Ryan Waldschmidt is running unopposed as Fond du Lac County Sheriff, while Shelly Weber, also unopposed, is running for Clerk of Circuit Court.
The biggest statewide contest is the race for governor. Republican Tom Tiffany will face Democrat David Crowley in an open-seat race. Governor Tony Evers decided not to seek another term, making this the first open gubernatorial election in Wisconsin in 16 years.
Another statewide race with a local connection is the attorney general’s contest. Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney, a Republican, is challenging Democratic incumbent Josh Kaul.
Voters will also decide races for lieutenant governor, secretary of state and state treasurer.
In the sixth congressional district, which includes all of Fond du Lac County, Republican incumbent Glenn Grothman faces Democrat Brad Smith, Green Party candidate Matthew Arndt, and independent candidates Elizabeth Fitzgibbon and Mike Thurow.
There is also a competitive race for the 60th Assembly District, which includes the City of Fond du Lac and North Fond du Lac. Republican Marty Ryan is facing independent candidate Tiffany Brault.
All 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly are up for election, along with 17 of the state’s 33 Senate seats. The results could have a significant impact on the balance of power in Madison.
Wisconsin voters will also decide three proposed amendments to the state constitution.
The questions involve limiting the governor’s partial veto authority to prevent it from creating or increasing taxes or fees, prohibiting government from closing places of worship during emergencies, and prohibiting government discrimination or preferential treatment based on race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. tomorrow. If not already registered, Wisconsin residents can register to vote at their polling place on Election Day with proof of residence.
