Group to testify at Senate legislative hearing to legalize medicinal cannabis
The Wisconsin Wellness Coalition – launched in partnership with the Indigenous Cannabis Industry Association (ICIA) – plans to testify at Wednesday’s Senate legislative hearing, marking another step forward in the ongoing effort to ensure access to safe, effective cannabis options for Wisconsinites. Senate Bill 534 (SB 534), sponsored by Sen. Testin, Senate President Felzkowski and Rep. Snyder, aims to establish a statewide medicinal cannabis program – the first of its kind in the state.
As neighboring Midwest states have legalized medicinal cannabis and beyond, Wisconsin has remained an outlier, moving patients out of state to find a right to try medicinal solutions. SB 534 acknowledges the bipartisan, 86% of Wisconsin residents who support the essential pain-management solution with regulations.
“We are thankful that Senate Republicans, Testin and Felzkowski, understand the need to provide relief and the right to try medical interventions with cannabis,” said Rob Pero, Founder and CEO of ICIA. “Wisconsin must broaden access to cannabis for our most vulnerable communities. Our coalition is hopeful that SB 534 will be the start of a thoughtful path towards safe regulation and necessary care for residents statewide.”
As part of their organizing efforts, the Wisconsin Wellness Coalition is talking with voters throughout the state and running targeted digital ads in legislative districts, urging Wisconsinites to show their support for legalizing medicinal cannabis.
