Handcuffed suspect flees traffic stop and crashes in Fond du Lac

Shortly before 8 PM on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper pulled a vehicle over for a speeding violation on I-41 northbound near County Highway F.

The person driving gave the trooper a name that didn’t come back on record so they requested assistance from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office by grabbing an identity finding tool at the State Patrol Headquarters.

While they were waiting, the trooper had the driver step out of the vehicle and shortly after that, it was found that the vehicle, a white Ford Escape with Illinois plates, was stolen.

The trooper handcuffed the driver’s hands in front of him, and shortly after, the man ran back to his vehicle and sped away.

Now in a pursuit, the state trooper as well as a couple Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies chased the suspect north on I-41.

The driver exited onto Highway 151 eastbound (north) and then exited at County Highway V where he entered into the City of Fond du Lac.

North on V, the suspect turned west on Pioneer where he then crashed, rolling the vehicle near Martin Avenue.

Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue responded to the scene and transported the suspect to ThedaCare Regional Medical Complex in Neenah.

While working the crash scene, according to scanner traffic, the real name of the person was found out and they have a full extraditable warrant for their arrest out of Indiana for kidnapping.

Once medically cleared from the hospital, the suspect will be returning to the Fond du Lac County jail to face more charges.
