Highway 21 in Winnebago County to re-open after months long project
Drivers traveling between Oshkosh and Omro should soon have a much easier trip, as a lengthy construction closure on State Highway 21 is scheduled to end this weekend.
Wisconsin DOT says the 8.8-mile stretch between the Fox River bridge in Omro and an area just west of Washburn Street in Oshkosh has been closed since early April for a resurfacing and safety improvement project.
The work includes pavement repairs, new asphalt, upgraded pedestrian curb ramps and several new roundabouts. Those include a multi-lane roundabout at Leonard Point Road and single-lane roundabouts at County FF and Reighmoor Road, and Sand Pit Road.
New left-turn lanes were also added at Oakwood Road and Westhaven Drive.
The reopening is welcome news for commuters and businesses that have dealt with the detour for much of the year. Drivers should still expect some single-lane closures as crews finish cleanup and remaining work.
