Highway 67 west of Campbellsport re-opened after being closed due to crash from high speed chase
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Wisconsin State Patrol as well as Campbellsport Police were involved in a high speed pursuit Thursday night, December 12, 2024 that resulted in the suspect crashing, rolling several times.
The pursuit started north of the village of Campbellsport at about 8:15 PM when an officer attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding on County V. The chase was terminated due to safety concerns in the Village of Campbellsport but officers re-engaged in the pursuit when the vehicle left the village limits west on 67.
With speeds reaching over 110 mph, the driver went off the road into a grassy area where the driver turned around and struck a pursuing officer’s cruiser. At this point the chase proceeded back eastbound towards Campbellsport.
At around Memorial Drive, the vehicle left the roadway and rolled several times landing on the vehicles roof which collapsed, pinning the driver and lone occupant in.
Once the vehicles door was cut off by firefighters jaws for life, the suspect was able to self extricate and was escorted to a waiting medical helicopter.
When the vehicle crashed, it knocked down a power pole which disrupted power to about 260 residence in the area per WE Energies website.
Highway 67 was closed for four hours while State Patrol Troopers reconstructed the crash scene and WE Energies fixed power due to the downed power pole.
The driver, a 19 year old male from Fond du Lac, is being charged with 2 counts of Felony Fleeing/Eluding, possession of THC, Possession of drug paraphernalia, 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, and multiple other traffic citations.
