Improperly discarded smoking materials cause porch fire

On Friday, January 31, 2025, at 1:35pm. FDLFR was dispatched to a report of a fire on the porch of the residence at 524 S Main St.

Upon arrival, Fire Companies found smoke coming from the front porch of the residence.  The fire was being extinguished by a local neighbor prior to fire department arrival. Firefighters were able to finish extinguishing the fire and overhaul the porch area as well as a little bit of the siding area around the porch.  Fire investigators determined the fire originated from improper discarding of smoking materials on the porch.

There were no injuries reported by occupants or fire fighters on the scene.

FDL Police Department assisted with scene management and traffic control.

The cause of the fire is one that is completely preventable. This fire could have had much different results if not for the quick actions taken by neighbors in calling in the fire as well as helping with the fire extinguishers.  Fond du Lac Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone that the only safe way to discard smoking materials is in an appropriate fire-proof receptacle.
