Inmate at Oshkosh Correctional Institution dies after altercation with another inmate

The Oshkosh Police Department is investigating a death that occurred after a physical disturbance between three inmates took place Wednesday, January 7, 2026, just before 3 p.m. at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution.

Officials say A 43-year-old inmate who assaulted another inmate experienced a medical emergency after being secured by prison staff. Oshkosh Fire Department Paramedics were called and transported him to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The next morning, Investigators from the Oshkosh Police Department were notified that the man had died at the hospital.

The Oshkosh Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident.
