Kwik Trip cutting out pennies in cash transactions
If you are a customer of Kwik Trip and you are paying in cash, you may notice what the clerk asks for payment may be less than what is on the register. This is because Kwik Trip is getting rid of pennies in their cash transactions by rounding down to the nearest nickel.
So for example, if you buy something that comes to a total of $2.29, and are paying cash, you will be asked to pay $2.25.
Any form of digital payment however will still be asked to pay the full price.
Kwik Trip says stores will enact the new cash transaction policy as their penny supplies run out, so stores will be going penniless at different times. At least one store in Fond du Lac is already using the new policy.
The change was implemented after talk of the US Mint ceasing to make pennies was brought up earlier this year. Kwik Trip says they may change back to using pennies if a decision is made to continue minting pennies in the future.
