Mail and other federal offices closed today during “Day of Mourning” for Jimmy Carter
Post offices around the country are closed today, Thursday, January 9, 2025, and there will be no mail delivery because President Biden has declared today a national day of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter who died December 29, 2024 at 100 years old.
Not only will post offices be closed, but as part of the executive order, all federal departments and agencies will be closed, though some vital employees for national defense and security may still be working.
Most other services, businesses and financial centers will be operating as usual, as it’s not a federal holiday, though it’s recommended you check local store hours before heading out.
Flags are also being flown at half staff for the entire month of January as part of the mourning for Carter.
