Man convicted of First-Degree Reckless Homicide in Fond du Lac County overdose death

On Friday, May 2, 2025, a man was convicted of First-Degree Reckless Homicide in Fond du Lac County for the overdose death of a person on May 17, of 2023 in Waupun.
A Jury convicted Dylan Mayne of First-Degree Reckless Homicide at the conclusion of a five-day trial. As a result of the guilty verdict, Judge Douglas Edelstein revoked bond, ordered a pre-sentence investigation report, and scheduled the sentencing hearing for June 13.
According to a criminal complaint, Mayne provided fentanyl to the Victim on May 16 of 2023, which led the Victim’s death. A second individual had overdosed as well but was med flighted to a Madison hospital and survived.
Waupun Police investigated the scene and found the victims cell phone and extracted data that led to the belief that Mayne was the source of the drugs used in the overdose.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney said A conviction can’t bring a loved one back, but it might save someone else or spur another to seek treatment.”
