Man found dead in Waupun had injuries to torso and head

The Waupun police Department has released new information on the man found dead in a Brown Street home Thursday morning, January 4, 2024.

Just before 5 AM, 74-year-old Paul Abresch Sr. was found deceased in his home in the 100 block of west Brown Street. Police on the scene deemed the death suspicious and set up a crime scene.

Preliminary autopsy reports showed injuries to the man’s torso and head, and police have taken the man’s 42-year-old son, who they say was with Abresch the night of
the death, into custody on a probation hold but are not saying he is a suspect at this time. Police say another son was also in the home that night but that 44-year-old is not in police custody.

Waupun interim Police Chief Jeremy Rausch says the department is waiting on final autopsy results along with toxicology results for the actual cause of death in this case.
