Man who drove vehicle into Fond du Lac Verizon building pleads no contest

The Fond du Lac County man accused of crashing his vehicle into a Verizon store full of people April 27th of 2023, after he admitted to huffing from an aerosol can, plead no contest Thursday, January 2, 2025, to eight counts that have been brought against him in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court.

21-year-old Benjamin Ayer passed out while driving on north Rolling Meadows Drive, traveling several hundred feet before jumping the curb and crashing into the building at 467 north Rolling Meadows Drive, injuring several people.

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney said the counts brought against Ayer were Intoxicated use of a Controlled Substance, Causing Great Bodily Harm, four counts of 2nd Degree Reckless Endangering Safety, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of THC, and Operating while Intoxicated Causing Injury.

Ayer faces a maximum possible sentence of over 27 years of initial prison confinement. A judge in the case set sentencing for February 14th.
