Moderate snowfall opens Fond du Lac County snowmobile trails

A heavy snow that fell Friday, February 14, and Saturday February 15, 2025, finally allowed for county snowmobile trails to be opened.

According to the Fond du Lac County Snowmobile Association web page, zones 1, 2 and 5 opened Saturday, and zones 3 and 4 will open at 6 AM Sunday morning.

The site says “Early season conditions exist so riders should ride with caution.

Fond du Lac County’s snowmobile trail system consists of approximately 302 miles of groomed snowmobile trails on privately owned land.  Of these 302 miles, approximately 50 miles is located on abandon railroad corridors. The County’s role in the system consists of applying for and administering annual DNR snowmobile grants, ensuring compliance with State regulations and guidelines, and planning improvements. These state funded trails crisscross Fond du Lac County establishing a network of snowmobile trails for users to enjoy.

Snowmobilers wishing to ride on county trails need to get a snowmobile trail pass from the Wisconsin DNR.
