Multiple 100 pound+ sturgeon speared during opening weekend

The first weekend of sturgeon spearing is in the books, and the amount of sturgeon speared is reflective of water clarity which was said to be pretty bad, especially on the southern half of Lake Winnebago.
Even with the low numbers however, there were a couple big ones pulled in, including a 180 pounder speared by Hailey Herzig. The 4th largest to ever be speared in Winnebago. In total for the weekend, 14 sturgeon over 100 pounds were speared.
Total weekend numbers are as follows.
156 sturgeon were speared on Lake Winnebago including 58 males, 74 adult female and 24 juvenile females.

134 total sturgeon were speared on the up river lakes including 97 males, 17 adult females and 20 juvenile females for a total of 290 fish. This equates to 10% of the season caps.
The busiest stations on Winnebago were Oshkosh and Neenah where it was said water clarity was a little better, but the hot spot seemed to be on Lake Poygan where 87 fish were registered over the weekend.
A fish shanty count done Sunday yielded 3340 shanties on the ice.
Sturgeon spearing goes through February 23rd or until one of the caps has been met.
