National Consumer Protection & Weights and Measures Week
March 1-7, 2026 is a special week for Wisconsin! The state is observing both National Consumer Protection Week and National Weights and Measures Week, and for DATCP’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and Bureau of Weights and Measures, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the efforts to protect Wisconsin consumers from unfair and unsafe business practices.
Last year, DATCP’s Bureau of Consumer Protection responded to more than 20,000 contacts to the Consumer Protection Hotline, gave more than 550 community presentations across Wisconsin, launched new outreach toolkits that businesses and community organizations can use to educate the public about common consumer protection topics, and partnered with colleges and universities across Wisconsin to provide consumer protection tips and resources to students.
Meanwhile, DATCP’s Bureau of Weights and Measures conducted over 214,000 inspections at more than 5,700 Wisconsin business locations to verify the accuracy of measuring instruments (like deli scales, electronic price scammers, and motor vehicle fuel pumps) and confirm that goods priced by weight were correctly labeled.
Consumer protection is a collaborative effort between a wide range of state agencies, support organizations, businesses, and everyday consumers.
