New details released on how Beaver Dam Amber Alert subject was found

New details have been released on the finding of the missing teen from Beaver Dam and the capture of the man she left with.

According to the Beaver Dam Police Department, Police in Nebraska made contact with the two after a tip came in to the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office of a possible sighting of the two at a truck stop on I-80 near Omaha on Wednesday. Its reported a truck driver saw the two together and she thought something didn’t seem right. The driver last saw the two doing laundry at the truck stop.

Initially the two gave false information in regards to their identity, but a device used to quickly read fingerprints was used on the man to confirm he was Gary Day… the suspect in the case.

Day, was taken into custody and Sophia Franklin, now 17, was taken to a secure facility to await re-unification with her family which she has since occurred.

Franklin was seen at a local hospital after she was found and doctors say she and the baby she is pregnant with are in good health. That baby is believed to be Day’s.

The two met online last year and Franklin went to stay with him at his Arkansas home while telling her parents she was staying with a local friend. After being brought back to Beaver Dam the first time, Day travelled to Beaver Dam at the beginning of February and the two ran off together, prompting an Amber Alert.
