North Fond du Lac gas leak causes evacuations

Multiple homes in North Fond du Lac needed to be evacuated Thursday, June 4, 2026, and almost two dozen homes were without gas service for several hours after a gas leak was discovered.

Just before 10 a.m., the North Fond du Lac Fire Department was called to the area of McKinley Street near Bechaud Avenue for a gas leak.

While North Fond du Lac Fire and Police evacuated the immediate area and blocked off traffic from entering the neighborhood, gas was turned off to shut down the leak.

Once the leak was stopped, roads were opened back up, however the North Fond du Lac Fire Department stated on their Facebook page that 22 houses would be without gas for 4-5 hours while the leak was fixed.

No information was released on how the gas leak occurred and no injuries were reported.
