Clarence Eugene McDaniel “Gene” Moore

Clarence Eugene McDaniel “Gene” Moore passed away quietly on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 91 years old. Gene was born in 1934, in Ottumwa, Iowa, in a Salvation Army hospital to a young teen mother. His name given at birth was James A. Cahill. He was adopted by a widow who had paranoid schizophrenia and had a very difficult childhood.
He attended the University of Iowa before he enlisted in the US Army, where he was a medic stationed at White Sands in New Mexico. He then went to medical school at the University of Iowa. He practiced psychiatry in Fond du Lac for 35 years. In his retirement he took up photography, focusing on taking pictures of cars and motorcycles at Road America race track in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Gene worked at the race track from its inaugural season through his career as a physician. He started as a corner worker and then as one of the track doctors. Gene was passionate about cars and car and motorcycle racing. He was at the track most weekends for races through the 2025 season. He had many good friends and many good times there.
Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Marie Flowers, who died in a car crash at 31 years old in 2004. He is survived by his daughter, Jill Moore Valenti and his wife, Linda Moore.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E Division St, in Fond du Lac. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Rienzi Cemetery.
Memorials in Gene’s name will be directed to enhance the flower gardens at the Edenbrook Wellness & Rehabilitation of Fond du Lac.
