Hazel H. Blanck

Hazel H. Blanck passed away peacefully at the Villa Loretto on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the age of 93. She was born in Johnsburg, WI on July 6, 1929 to Leo and Marcella (Schmitz) Merten. She attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and later graduated from Chilton High School in 1947 where she was valedictorian of her class.

On October 6, 1948 Hazel married the love of her life, Bob Blanck at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg. In 1952, the couple opened Bob & Hazel’s tavern which became Blanck’s Supper Club. Together Bob and Hazel put in countless hours of hard work and dedicated nearly 30 years to the success of their restaurant. Blanck’s Supper Club continues to be their legacy as it thrives today in its third generation of family ownership.

Hazel loved her family, baking cookies and preparing Chinese food for them for as long as she was able. Her favorite teams were the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. She watched every game and always had a quick-witted comment about their play. She was a member of many card clubs over the years with friends and family.

Hazel is survived by three sons, Bob Jr. (Barb) Blanck, Chuck Blanck and Kevin (Kay) Blanck, a brother, Larry Merten, and grandchildren, Alvin and Christine Hammer, Beth Blanck, Brenda (Dave) Haselow, Carven (Juli) Blanck, Ben (Colleen) Blanck, Sam (Dawn) Blanck, Mike Blanck, Vicki (Noah) Krumbien, Ashley Blanck, Stacy (Brian) Meyer, Steve (Ana) Blanck and Scott (Nichole) Blanck. She is further survived by 25 great-grandchildren, Ellie and Grant Haselow, Ali Blanck, Sami Jo (Mike) Birdsall, Connor (Amanda) Blanck, Noah Blanck, Caden, Talan and Mason Blanck, Taylor, Alicia and Brandon Blanck, Isabelle, Elijah and Isaac Krumbien, GracIie and Damonje Blanck, Kennedy and Jordyn Meyer, Brantley and Raelynn Blanck, Quincheizel, Francesca, Anastasia and Reinachelza Blanck and two great-great-grandchildren, Alice Blanck and Logyn Birdsall, many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Bob, her parents, Leo and Marcella Merten, one daughter, Cheryl Hammer, one son, Dale Blanck, a daughter-in-law, Nancy Blanck, a great-granddaughter, Melissa Blanck, one brother, Ernie Merten, brothers- and sisters-in-law, Howie and Pat Blanck, Don and Louella Vorpahl, Mary Ellen Merten and Virginia Merten.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be at Zacherl Funeral Home on Monday, October 3 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg on Tuesday, October 4 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Hazel will be entombed at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum – Ledgeview Memorial Park.
