Maurice “Peter” Costello

Maurice “Peter” Costello joined his heavenly family on September 2nd, 2024. Pete was born in the 11th hour of the 11th month, on the 11th day in 1930 to Addis & Ruth (nee Mc Galloway) Costello. Faith, Family & Farming were staples in Pete’s life giving him the tools he would require living 93 years. Pete left St. Joseph’s school after 8th grade to work for a farmer, Hank Kraus. Hank’s neighbor Loretta Buechel caught Pete’s eye, and he caught hers as well. Pete & Loretta were married on May 2nd, 1953, at 9 am at St. Mary’s in Fond du Lac. The reception was held back on the Buechel farm with a public dance at Lake De Neveu Hall that night.

The newly married couple’s next adventure included starting their family and shortly after Pete enlisted in the Army joining the military police. His return to the states in 1957 led him to a career at Purina Foods operating the feed mixer system. The desire to farm led the young couple to purchase a farm on Kelley Road in Eden, and this farm was used for the raising of feeder pigs while Peter continued to work at Purina. After 13 years, they took a leap of faith and purchased a dairy farm in 1971 on Highway UU in Fond du Lac. Farm life was a blessing and life lessons were instilled in their family in the form of work ethic, respect, loyalty, and unconditional love.

Pete’s love to socialize made him a great asset to jobs after retirement delivering meals on wheels and assisting Jim & Pat O’Brien at Equity Livestock. Pete’s next venture came in the form of driving for Johnson Bus, as he transported children in the Eden & Campbellsport areas. The children on the bus benefitted by having Pete for a driver, as their pets received extra treats at drop off in the evening and pickup in the morning. Parents basked in the peace of mind knowing their kids were well cared for.
