Overall drought in area continues to be a problem for area fire departments

The Waupun Fire Department was called out to a moderately sized vegetation fire Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in Dodge County.

The page requesting the department for a controlled burn that got out of control went out just before 7 PM for a location on Oakwood Road, just west of Highway 151. On scene, fire crews were faced with a field of dry vegetation, about a foot tall, burning.

They managed to keep the fire contained to about a one acre area and were on scene for just over an hour.

Fond du Lac County is currently listed in the “high” category, or a level three of five, on the Wisconsin DNR’s outdoor fire danger website. Conditions should improve with several days with rain in the forecast coming up.
