Preliminary numbers in for Wisconsin gun deer hunting opening weekend

Numbers are in for Wisconsin’s opening weekend of the 2025 gun deer season.

According to the Wisconsin DNR, a preliminary total of 90,671 deer were registered, which is a 3.9% increase from 2024, but still 1.1% below the five-year average.

Included in that total were 48,748 antlered deer and 41,923 antlerless deer.

The DNR said Favorable weather conditions were noted with above freezing temperatures, though a lack of snow cover may have impacted hunters ability to track deer.

That changes however for the rest of the season at least for northern Wisconsin as a significant snowfall is expected for the northern half of the state today.

The gun deer season runs through sunset Sunday.
