Ripon man convicted of attempted homicide, sexual assault and mayhem

On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric J. Toney announced that Hayden L. Daffinson was convicted of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide, First Degree Sexual Assault, and Mayhem, all with the domestic abuse enhancer, after pleading guilty to all three charges. Bond was revoked and the sentencing hearing has been scheduled on June 29 at 10:00 a.m. in front of Judge Anthony Nehls.

Daffinson was accused of trying to kill a Fond du Lac woman with an axe during the summer of 2025. In addition to many lacerations, the woman also suffered two broken arms and several skull fractures as well.

District Attorney Toney stated, “Violence against women has no place in our society and we will stand with survivors to fight for justice and protect women in our communities.”

Daffinson faces up to 105 years of initial confinement and 35 years of extended supervision. The remaining counts, 4 through 8 were dismissed but read-in, allowing the judge to consider them at the sentencing hearing.

This case was investigated by the City of Fond du Lac Police Department and prosecuted by District Attorney Eric Toney.
