Scammers claiming to belong to sheriff’s office targeting Fond du Lac County residents

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving someone impersonating one of its captains.

The Sheriff’s Office says residents are being contacted by someone claiming to be Captain Chris Randall, who tells victims they have an urgent legal matter and threatens them with an arrest warrant.

The scammer then provides a fraudulent phone number and asks the victim to make a payment to avoid arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office reminds residents it will never request payment over the telephone.

Anyone who receives one of these calls is urged to block the number and contact the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 920-929-3390.
