Snowmobile Safety Week – January 10-18

Today marks the start of Snowmobile Safety Week and The Wisconsin DNR is reminding snowmobilers to be aware of unsafe ice with the warmer temperatures so far in January, saying ice conditions can be unpredictable with fluctuating temperatures.

The DNR doesn’t monitor ice conditions, so snowmobilers are urged to monitor local fishing clubs ice reports when making plans to head out on area lakes.

The DNR also urges snowmobilers to ride sober. Not only is it illegal to operate under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but it also puts you, your passengers and other recreational riders at risk. Wisconsin saw three snowmobile alcohol-related deaths in 2025.
