Some McDonalds changing cash transaction policy due to lack of pennies
McDonald’s is the next business modifying it’s cash transaction policy due to the US Treasury’s decision to halt penny production.
The lack of pennies in circulation has caused some of the fast-food restaurants to round cash purchases, either up or down, to the nearest five cents when customers don’t have exact change.
The U.S. Mint stopped making pennies two months ago after determining that it wasn’t cost effective to make them, with the production cost being nearly 4 times the face value. Due largely to rising prices for metals like zinc and copper used to make the coin.
This change in McDonald’s policy only affects people using cash to pay for their food.
